Under normal circumstances, Morpeth participates in the annual national Heritage Open Days (HoDs) event with a local programme – coordinated by the Greater Morpeth Development Trust – including open buildings, guided tours and walks, talks, exhibitions and demonstrations. Popular regular events include tours of the Clock Tower, the display of the Town Civic Treasures in the Town Hall, exhibitions by the Antiquarian Society, talks from the Collingwood Society and around a dozen local churches opening their doors.
In 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic there was no local live Heritage Open Day event, although the Landmark Trust produced an on-line video “Festival of Landmark” which features Morpeth Castle as a substitute for their usual national involvement in HODs.
