Old Bakehouse Millennium Green
The Old Bakehouse Millennium Green is Morpeth’s award winning secret garden. This delightful wildlife garden is a haven for residents and visitors as well as birds, bees and butterflies. If you have 20 minutes to spare and would like some peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings, come and find it down Old Bakehouse Yard, off Newgate Street.
Open every day. Everyone is welcome. Free entry.
The Green was created from wasteland in 1999 and occupies two Medieval burgage plots behind the shops along Newgate Street. Originally, there was a communal bakehouse nearby. The site of the Millennium Green links back to the origins of Morpeth as a historic market town.
Through the year, community events are held in the Green – this year (2022), we have planned:
- On 9th July, 11 am to 2 pm, our annual Garden fete with great stalls selling plants, cakes, books as well as childrens’ games, a tombola and refreshments.
- in August, our well-loved summer musical evening
- in December, carol singing on the Green
